With 16 matches left in the season, cricket legend and commentator Sunil Gavaskar has urged the IPL organizers to maintain a respectful atmosphere for the rest of the tournament. He suggested avoiding loud music and cheerleader performances to honor the victims and families affected by the recent conflict.
The IPL, which was paused for a week due to the India-Pakistan border conflict, will resume on May 17. The remaining matches of the 18th edition will restart with a clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
In an interview with Sports Today, Sunil Gavaskar said, “We’ve already seen 60 matches. With just 15 or 16 to go, I truly hope that out of respect for those who lost their lives and their families, there will be no loud music, no DJ interruptions, and no dancing. Let the game speak for itself.”
He further added, “Let the crowd come and enjoy the match in silence. That would be a true tribute.”
Gavaskar also supported the BCCI’s earlier decision to suspend the tournament, noting that during a time of national tension, sports must take a backseat. He concluded, “The sudden suspension was the right call. But now that there is a ceasefire, it’s appropriate for the tournament to resume.”
